Okay, so I just started writing and this is what I came up with. I think Joyce will be entering college. Is relieved to have the opportunity to "start anew" in college and find companionship and joy... She lives at Redland Grove, which I think is going to be a farm (I'm going to try to incorporate my 4-H knowledge and such for all life that takes place there) so she is also a country girl coming into this big college town full of college parties and general merriment. She is cheerful and all but was rather isolated in highschool due to her remote location. She is excited to plunge into this college life though. I need to start introducing other characters and such. I don't know if this little blurb will be the beginning. I may start it mid-conversation, I just started writing to get stuff out there. Any other character ideas? Who does she meet? I think her roomate is going to be a glamor girl from California who comes back at 5 am every night "slightly woozy", befriends the naive Joyce and brings her to a party... Any ideas for names? -other characters? I'm 100% open to ideas.
Joyce stood erect; waving bravely at her mom and dad as they slowly backed their black pick-up out of the parking spot, tears slowly carving a path on her mother’s face while her father somberly drove away. This is it, she thought to herself, I’m finally on my own. She turned around to face the dorm behind her; its ten floors towered over her small stature, impressing upon her the grandeur of this adventure, -there was no way back to Redland Grove now. Somehow there was no longer the anxiety filling her eyes as she looked up to her room on the eighth floor. Orientation week was over, her parents had just left and now it wasn’t merely a building; it was her dorm, her new home, and she was excited for it. No matter what it may bring.
